Role of Brahma, Rudra and Maheshwara
Brahma and Maheswara are two key concepts in Ayur Jyotish. We know that in Hindu Pantheon, the Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara Create, Sustain and Annihilate respectively. Thus the concept of Brahma as creator and Maheswara as the liberator are used in some key Ayur Dasas such as Brahma, Sthira, Shoola dasa etc. Though their importance is high, many do not venture into finding them as they turn out to be little complicated. I tried to make this little easier to understand and compute. With hard work and patience, this can be learnt and applied in Ayur Jyotisha.
I will not describe how to calculate which Planet in a Vedic Horoscope assumes the role of Brahma, Rudra and Maheshwara. Once again, different schools of thought have variations in deciding which Planet will gain importance and role mentioned above. Suffice to say that, majority of astrologers are NOT taught the intricacies of system and then many who do learn this subject, do NOT venture into predicting death – this can have a negative impact on clients.
However, this system gains importance in Mundane astrology too where the duration of a Government, cabinet ministers can be discovered and defined with precision. For instance the Office of the President of the United States is limited to a four year term. This may be extended to one more term. Of course, there is every possibility that a Presidency may come to an abrupt end when the nation loses its President while in office.
Alternately, there are situations where this system gains utmost importance to calculate when and how death may befall a native. Trust me when I say, that, most clients who do wish to know about their death – these are the ones really scared to die and do NOT take inputs discovered in a calm fashion. First and foremost expression is that of despair, loneliness, rejection and surrender. Everybody knows that one whomsoever takes birth, has to die one day. But, the very thought of death creeping on a native gives shivers down the spine of many.
The wise astrologer will never reveal the exact time of death, he/she will study certain hints within a horoscope that can be helpful while delivering dreadful news. Of course there are other calculations too which may confirm discoveries by this method.
As a case study, I will be taking the chart of a well-known personality and leave it to the well informed reader to judge how and when death had an icy grip on the native. The chart belongs an activist, a relentless activist who exposes many a clandestine and shady practice in food, and medical industry in India. Even today, people listen to his lectures strewn thru youtube channel. Being a lone activist against corporations and big business houses is not a path for the meek and the weak, it calls for a greater amount of bravado. I came across his horoscope thru a common colleague who is a family friend to the native. I had the opportunity to speak to family members and confirm my discoveries.
Death Inflicting Dasa- Antardasa:
- Longevity extends from Brahma to Maheswara.
- During the Brahma dasa of the sign having Mahesvara the antardasa will be of a sign in trines to the sign occupied by the eighth lord from Maheswara.
- The strongest of the lords of the 3rd, 6th, 8th & 12th houses from atmakaraka becomes the maraka.
- Generally, the 6th lord is death inflictor.
- The dasa of the sign occupied or aspected (or in trines) for the death inflictor furnishes the last period of life.
- The antardasa could be of the signs in the 6th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the death inflictor dasa sign.
Birth details have been withheld on express request of relatives of the native. Let me list planets which assumed the role of Brahma, Rudra and Maheshwara in his chart.
Using rules mentioned above for death inflicting Dasa and Antar Dasa –
- Longevity extends from Brahma (Venus) to Maheswara (Mercury).
- During the Brahma dasa of the sign having Mahesvara the antardasa will be of a sign in trines to the sign occupied by the eighth lord from Maheswara. The 8th lord from Maheshwara (Mercury) is once again Venus as Mercury occupies Libra – the ascendant sign in his horoscope! The 8th sign from Libra is that of Taurus owned by Venus!
- The strongest of the lords of the 3rd, 6th, 8th & 12th houses from atmakaraka becomes the maraka. Saturn (Occupying Aquarius) is the Atma Karaka in his horoscope, so, the list will be Mars, Moon, Mercury and Saturn himself!
- Generally, the 6th lord is death inflictor. The 6th lord in his horoscope is a retrograde Jupiter. Jupiter is exalted in the 10th house of Cancer. So, his enemies will be extremely well placed and capable of murder!
- The dasa of the sign occupied or aspected (or in trines) for the death inflictor furnishes the last period of life.
- The antardasa could be of the signs in the 6th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the death inflictor dasa sign.

He died in the early hours of 1st December 2010 around 2:00 AM. He died just few hours short of completing his 44th year! Let us confirm this event thru his Annual Tajaka chart.
As you can see above, the Tajaka (Solar Return) horoscope has the same ascendant sign, Libra, as the natal. When the Annual Solar Return chart has the same Rising sign as the Natal Chart, the year ahead becomes as Dwijanma Year for the native. The native will suffer during the ensuing year.
By Vimshottari Dasa period, death for him was during Mercury->Moon->Saturn->Saturn->Saturn.
His annual Mudda Dasa was Venus->Ketu->Mercury.
